Lockport’s new arena announces first major hockey tournament

LOCKPORT – Cornerstone Arena will host its first major hockey tournament Jan. 16-18, with 10 Junior A teams competing, the arena management announced Monday.

The Lockport Express will host all the other teams in the North American 3 Eastern Hockey League for the event, which totals 15 games over three days, using both rinks in the new arena.

The Express has a 16-6 record, good for third place overall, and is leading the league in attendance.

There will be four games Friday night, nine games Saturday and two games Sunday morning. Tickets are $5 per game, with packages available for the individual dates or the entire 15-game slate, with a top price of $35. Children under age 12 will be admitted free.

It’s the first hockey tournament held in Lockport since 1986, the year the Kenan Arena shut down its rink.
