Al Dirschberger has been named the new executive director for Journey’s End Refugee Services, the agency announced Monday. Dirschberger will begin his new role on Jan. 20.
He will take over from Jeff Ogilvie, the agency’s employment services coordinator, who has served as interim executive director since the departure in May of former executive director Molly Short Carr for a position with RSC Africa.
Dirschberger is a graduate of Medaille College and received his master’s and doctorate in social work from the University at Buffalo. He is coming to Journey’s End after 28 years with Gateway Longview, a child and family services agency. He had been vice president at Gateway since 2002.
He is also a social science professor at Erie Community College and an adjunct professor of research methods at Daemen College.
Journey’s End Refugee Services, with offices in the Tri-Main Center, provides refugees coming to Buffalo with job training, housing help and other assistance as they become part of the community.
