Free Christmas trees will be available Wednesday

Free Christmas trees will be available to anyone in need from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday in the rear parking lot at the Philip Sheridan School, 3200 Elmwood Ave., Town of Tonawanda.

The giveaway continues a tradition started 26 years ago by former Erie County Legislator Charles Swanick and Dave Arida of Arida Tree Farmers. Adria Tree Farmers and North Town Nursery are donating trees.

Volunteers will help load trees into vehicles. After 1 p.m., remaining trees will be left in the parking lot for anyone to take. Town of Tonawanda Highway Superintendent Bill Swanson says his department will mulch any trees that are not taken.
