Arcade man charged in violent domestic assault

WARSAW — A 31-year-old Arcade man was arrested Saturday morning after he allegedly struck his wife in the head several times with a small hammer and punched her in the face, the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office reported.

Police said Joseph A. Craft, of Michigan Road, also pushed his 2-year-old daughter and threatened to kill his daughter and wife. Craft was charged with second-degree assault, endangering the welfare of a child and third-degree menacing.

He was also charged with fourth-degree criminal mischief for allegedly destroying his wife’s cell phone to prevent her from calling 911.

The victim was able to flee the residence and call for help from a nearby residence, police said. Craft fled the residence and was charged after he was located about 9:30 a.m. Saturday, police said.

He was arraigned in Town of Arcade court and committed to the Wyoming County Jail on $15,000 bail.
