A Christmas Habit

A candle in the window,

A wreath on the door

Is really enough

But we always do more.

Lights cover each house

From roof tops to shrubs.

Red ribbons and fir trees

Are planted in tubs.

Santas and reindeer

Look out from the grass,

The walkways are lit

To let each guest pass.

Each window is framed

In little white lights,

A house for the holidays

Is a very bright sight.

A candle in the window,

A wreath on the door

Is really enough

But we always do more.

BLESS THE BEASTS – In need of some cheer and support for the holidays are the 100-plus wild and domestic critters at the Lakeview Animal Sanctuary in Pendleton, along with founder Sandi Phohl and the other folks who look after them.

Although the shelter is able to cover its day-to-day obligations by holding spaghetti dinners and T-shirt sales, there are other concerns, such as drainage problems, a broken animal transport trailer and equine dental care, for which sponsors and partners are being sought. For info and to help, call 574-0359 or visit www.lasanctuary.org.
