Pysyk, Schaller joining Sabres; Lots of Sunday links from Boston

BOSTON -- As you may have noted on Twitter a couple of hours ago  defenseman Mark Pysyk and center Tim Schaller are joining the Sabres from Rochester for tonight's game against the Bruins. The team made the moves official shortly after 11 a.m. today, putting Torrey Mitchell and Tyson Strachan on injured reserve to make room.

(Sometimes you have to work and work for a story and sometimes it walks right in front of you. It happens)

Pysyk will be joining the Sabres for the first time this season after a training camp injury pretty much ended his chances of making the club. He has one goal, nine assists and a minus-9 rating in 28 games in Rochester. Schaller notched his team-high eighth goal of the season for Rochester in last night's 4-2 loss to Milwaukee. He has 18 points and a plus-1 rating; Schaller made his NHL debut with the Sabres earlier this season and has played two games with no points.

The Sabres have canceled their morning skate, which they often do anyway prior to the second game of a back-to-back. But this one was a virtual certainty, given Ted Nolan's news late last night that there's "flu-like symptoms" spreading through the dressing room.

Matt Moulson was sent home during the day and missed the 5-1 loss last night to Colorado and Patrick Kaleta only made it through one period. You should not their lockers are right next to each other in the home dressing room. And when the mumps question was asked by John Vogl, Nolan hardly gave a resounding no. Hmmmm.

Tyler Myers suffered a lower-body injury last night and Pysyk's recall certainly seems to indicate he won't play tonight. Nolan will update the media at 4:45 with info on those in sick bay and whether others like Mike Weber or Cody McCormick might play tonight.

It was a busy day today in the pages of The News sports section. Check out the links:
