Niagara Falls burglar granted youthful offender status

LOCKPORT – A Niagara Falls 19-year-old was sentenced Friday to the state’s boot camp-style ”shock incarceration” program for a Niagara Falls burglary, but Niagara County Judge Sara Sheldon Farkas granted him youthful offender status.

The burglar was 18 at the time of the crime Feb. 2, when an Xbox 360, five Xbox games and 15 DVDs were stolen from a home on Lockport Street. He pleaded guilty Sept. 4 to attempted third-degree burglary.

Farkas said the teen will serve one to three years in prison if he washes out of the shock program, and she ordered that after his release from prison, the burglar will have to pay $650 in restitution to the homeowner.
