Admirable Traits, a record label that has established roots in Buffalo and Brooklyn, has been making some noise in the Queen City over the last couple of years, releasing quality EPs from some Buffalo up-and-comers and beyond.
Started by longtime friends, Michael Moretti and Robb Haggsman, the former explains that ATR grew out of mutual experiences in the music business.
"ATR started after Robb and I dabbled in various music industry fields, working in venues, labels, college radio promotion companies," Moretti said. "The whole time we were doing that, we were kind of just working music that was basically hand-selected by other people. We decided finally after talking about starting our own record label for close to three years before the start date, to launch Admirable Traits Records in summer 2012."
The label's first release, the "Easy Tigers" EP from buzzing Bushwick five-piece, the Denzels, dropped in early 2013. And while he hopes to continue to work with bands on both sides of the state, Moretti seems to see plenty of potential right here in Buffalo.
"We want to sign bands that are amazing bands that we get excited about. We've worked with two bands out of Brooklyn (The Denzels and Half Day) but I see primarily being a Rochester/Buffalo-based label because there are so many great up-and-coming bands to the area."
"Right now, we are set to release Elliott Douglas' (formerly of The Malones) debut solo project, M.A.G.S. After that, we are in talks with a couple other bands but we are still in the early stages."
The first single from M.A.G.S.' "Cellophane," titled "My Love," should drop sometime in January. In the meantime, check out an early demo of the band, "I Won't Talk," below.
