UB football picks Leipold as new coach

The University at Buffalo has picked the winningest Division III coach in the country to be its new head football coach.

UB will introduce Wisconsin-Whitewater’s Lance Leipold as its head coach at a news conference Monday, sources told The News late Sunday. Sports Illustrated was the first to post a story on the hire.

Leipold, 50, has coached Wisconsin-Whitewater to the NCAA Division III championship five of the last seven years. His team is unbeaten and in the quarterfinals this year.
