State troopers will be out in full force today through Sunday as part of a Thanksgiving traffic safety initiative.
Regular patrols will be supplemented statewide, with special focus on cracking down on speeding, impaired, driving, underage drinking and distracted driving.
During the 2013 Thanksgiving holiday period, troopers arrested 181 drivers for DWI, issued 4,459 speeding tickets and 854 tickets for distracted driving.
State Police Superintendent Joseph A. D’Amico advised that if you’re going to drink, stay off the roads or make sure you have a designated driver to get you home. He also asked drivers to put down their cell phones and only use hands-free devices while at the wheel.
