Lockport shooting suspect charged with hate crime

An arrest has been made in an overnight shooting in Lockport that left a man in critical condition.

Josiah J. Chandler, 18, of Genesee Street in Lockport was arrested this morning and charged with second-degree attempted murder as a hate crime, as well as assault and illegal weapons possession.

The male victim, who has not been identified, suffered several gunshot wounds and is listed in critical condition at Erie County Medical Center.

Lockport police responded to a report of shots fired near the intersection of Church and Green streets at 12:25 a.m., police said this morning. The victim was found in the street and taken to Eastern Niagara Hospital in Lockport before being transported to ECMC.
