Arline P. Herrington, of Collins, who served as Collins postmaster for 34 years, died Friday in the Jennie B. Richmond Nursing Facility in Springville.
She was 95.
Born in Cattaraugus, the former Arline Petersen was a graduate of Cattaraugus High School and the Deaconess School of Nursing.
She moved to Collins in 1941, married Collins Postmaster Clyde M. Johengen and, upon his death in 1947, was appointed to succeed him. She retired in 1981.
In 1948, she married Arthur M. Herrington, who owned and operated the Herrington Store in Collins. He died in 1989.
Known to everyone as “Petie,” she was a member of the Collins Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary, the Home Bureau, the Postmasters Association and Gowanda Moose Lodge 1382.
She also volunteered for many years for the American Red Cross and Meals on Wheels.
Survivors include two sons, C. Michael Johengen and Thomas; three daughters, Anne Vogtli, Mary Bobsein and Jeri Serrianne; 11 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in Schindler Funeral Home, 44 Center St., Gowanda.
