The Mental Health Association of Erie County has received a grant from the Peter and Elizabeth C. Tower Foundation to expand its Family Support and Youth Peer support programs at Erie County Medical Center, BryLin Hospital and the Buffalo Psychiatric Center.
The three-year, $323,181 grant will be used by the MHA to hire staff to provide follow-up and outreach services to families and individuals in need at the three mental health sites; help them better access mental health care; and follow up with services and support after an inpatient stay.
In 2011, the MHA program worked with 300 individuals and families. This year, it will work with more than 5,000. Effective family support is seen as an indispensable part of an individual’s treatment and recovery, MHA officials said.
