Santa Claus Lane Parade to launch holiday season in Olean

OLEAN – More than 30 units will participate in the annual Santa Claus Lane Parade that gets underway at 7 p.m. Friday, officially kicking off the holiday season.

Santa Claus will throw the switch to turn on thousands of lights in downtown Olean. Grand marshals for the parade are the state champion Portville Lady Panthers volleyball team.

The march will begin at North Union and Wayne streets and proceed south to just beyond Lincoln Park in the center of the city. North Union Street will be closed to traffic at 6 p.m.

Spectators are asked to bring new, unwrapped toys to fill up a pickup, sponsored by Paul Brown Motors and Toys 4 Tots, on East State Street between Lincoln Park and the City Building. Last year’s Toys 4 Tots campaign provided gifts for more than 2,000 Olean-area children.

Local singer Dawn Elizabeth will perform Christmas carols near Lincoln Park. The Bent Brass Ensemble will perform from 6:30 to 7:15 p.m. near Blue Bird Square at North Union and Laurens streets.
