Nichols shuts out St. Mike’s
Nichols school’s boys varsity hockey team closed out its competition in the CISAA Tournament with a 3-0 victory over St. Michael’s College School of Toronto. Senior Nick Passafiume scored in the first period and Harrison Oates scored in the second and third for the Vikings. Senior goalie Aaron Fanti stopped 37 shots for his first shutout of the season. Nichols went 2-0-1 in the weekend tournament at St. Andrew’s in Aurora, Ont. The Vikings will face Northwood School at Union College in Schenectady on Sunday before playing two games in the Berkshire Showcase in Sheffield, Mass., next Monday. Nichols’ home opener will be Dec. 9 against the Buffalo Junior Sabres.
Trench finalists on PrepTalkTV
The 10 finalists for the Trench Trophy awarded to the outstanding lineman in Western New York high school football will be announced tonight on PrepTalkTV.
Trench Trophy committee members have scouted games throughout the season and they also break down film at weekly meetings to determine the finalists.
The winner will be unveiled at the group’s 12th annual banquet on Tuesday, Dec. 2, at the Lancaster Elks Lodge. Trench Trophy co-chairmen Carl Kuras and Ed Sciera will join Buffalo News Assistant Sports Editor Keith McShea on PrepTalkTV for the announcement.
