Women's hockey: Janiga notches 100th point, Buffalo State wins third straight

Welcome to the 100-point club Emily Janiga.

The junior from East Aurora became the 17th player in Mercyhurst women's hockey history to score 100 points. She had two assists and a power play goal for the Lakers in a 4-1 win over RIT Saturday night.

Janiga, who played high school hockey for Nichols, has 102 points (45 goals, 57 assists) in 89 career games.

The eighth-ranked Lakers are now 12-2-1 overall and 5-1-0 in College Hockey America.

Meanwhile, Buffalo State already has more wins than all of last season. And it's only November.

The Bengals earned a 3-1 win against Chatham in Pittsburgh Saturday night to improve to 4-2-1 overall and 4-1-0 in ECAC West. It was the third straight win for the Bengals who went 3-21-2 last season.

Chatham took a 1-0 lead 50 seconds into the game, but Buffalo State rebounded to score three goals. Caitie Horvatits (Elma) tied the game in the first. Kara Goodwin scored her team-leading seventh goal of the season at 7:13 of the third, while Erin Gehen (West Seneca) sealed the win.

Ten different players have scored for the Bengals this season.

Buffalo State and Chatham meet again at 1 p.m. today.
