An ice jam on Cazenovia Creek in West Seneca was resulting in rising water on the creek this afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.
The weather service sent a tweet out at about 2 p.m. reporting the ice jam, believed to be near Southgate Plaza and stopping around the Ridge Road area.
“That’s an evolving situation,” said David Zaff, weather service meteorologist. “It looks like ice to me. It looks like something that built up in small areas upstream and filtered in.”
Ice jam flooding initially wasn’t considered a threat in the recent flood watches and warning because of the earliness in the season, the apparent lack of ice on the waterways and the temperatures.
