Hamburg Central Schools will remain closed until Dec. 1.
Students already were scheduled to be off three days in the coming week for the Thanksgiving holiday.
“This unexpected closing will also bring a change to the school calendar. Monday, Dec. 22, and Tuesday, Dec. 23, will now become student attendance days,” the district said in a message to parents and staff.
Students originally were scheduled for a full two weeks of winter vacation.
The announcement addressed the ongoing effort to clear streets and driveways, not to mention sidewalks, in the village and town: “While our facilities are in good condition, there is concern about bus access in area neighborhoods and pedestrian safety.”
The change in schedule also moves the district’s Thanksgiving food drive into December, with food distribution rescheduled for Dec. 15.
