The Salvation Army will be providing food for people who were evacuated Thursday from residences that are at structural risk because of the heavy snows. It is responding to a request from the Erie County Emergency Operations Command.
Residents of nursing homes, an apartment complex and mobile home parks have moved to temporary shelters, including an elementary school, because of the potential for roof collapse, lack of heat and other problems.
The Salvation Army will provide meals for the displaced individuals and also is ready for the next phase of the storm as the weather warms up. It has stockpiles of bottled water, flood clean-up kits and other emergency supplies.
