Sunday's game between the Buffalo Bills and New York Jets is almost a certainty to be played somewhere other than snowbound Ralph Wilson Stadium, according to NFL sources closely monitoring the situation.
Detroit's Ford Field and Pittsburgh's Heinz Field are the most likely locations for the game, a league source said.
Less likely possibilities, according to NFL sources, are FedEx Field in Landover, Md., due to challenges with surrounding airports, and the Rogers Centre in Toronto, because of potential issues with passports for players and staff members of the Bills and Jets.
According to an NFL source, the league, which is expected to make the final call on where and when the game would be played by Friday afternoon, would prefer that the game be played on Sunday rather than moving it to Monday or Tuesday night.
"Public safety is the first priority," NFL senior vice president of communications Greg Aiello said in an e-mail. "We have been in discussions regarding potential alternatives. We will update everyone as soon as possible."
Bills president Russ Brandon, the source said, has been in direct contact with team representatives who have made their facilities available for the game, while also talking with people at league headquarters in New York.
