Hamburg can join together to make playground special
Let’s all join in to make Hamburg Playground the special place Laura Burns and the community created years ago.
The Nov. 12 News article reminds me of Laura Burns, friend and School Board member, in whose honor an annual award of the Erie County School Boards Association is given to someone who puts values into action as Laura did.
Then there’s Bridie Murphy, our AFS daughter from Australia (1976-77) who came back to East Aurora for our daughter’s wedding in 1988 and joined in the community efforts to build a Robert Leathers playground in Hamlin Park.
“We need to do this in Australia!” she exclaimed. So Bridie persuaded Leathers to come to Melbourne; he was impressed to see that she could engage machinery, supplies and volunteers.
Bridie became “Playground Lady of Australia,” engaging 13 communities in building playgrounds.
If Laura Burns and Bridie Murphy could do it then, surely the Hamburg community can do it now.
