After months of minor setbacks, and even longer local anticipation, rambunctious college rockers Wooden Waves are finally set to release their long awaited, full-length album, "Wilder Dreams," next month, via local label and comic/zine distributor One Percent Press.
The 10-track LP was recorded over a weeklong period in 2012 and 2013 at Matt Smith’s Hi/Lo Recording Studios in Eden, NY. The now five-piece, comprising two brothers (Billy and Ray Fulton), a married couple (Joey and Nikki McIntosh) and Buffalo’s busiest musician (Sonny Baker), has been floating around for the last five years or so, gaining a small hoard of local fans craving a proper follow up to the band’s sort-of demo, "Endless Bummer," which was thankfully re-released by One Percent Press last November.
This past spring, those awaiting new music from the group had their wishes granted as Wooden Waves premiered the first single off "Wilder Dreams," the driving “It’s Only Sky.” Fans of the Men, Archers of Loaf, Sonic Youth and Wavves would be wise to give the track a spin (see below) if they are not yet familiar with the band’s brand of noisy indie rock.
With busy members scattered over various area outfits, including Aye Karou, Lazlo Hollyfeld and the Atlanta Falcons, Wooden Waves gigs are becoming more of a rarity these days, but a record release is as good of a time as any to put on a show. The band will celebrate the release of "Wilder Dreams" Dec. 5 at Mohawk Place.
Local support will be provided by raucous Mohawk Place alumni TMMC (Tracy Morrow & the Magi Chippie), Sugar City stalwarts Mallwalkers and Buffalo quip-dropping alt-MC Jack Topht.
