WHEATFIELD – The sale of the former Suzanne’s Restaurant to an Islamic group closed Friday.
Documents filed in the Niagara County Clerk’s Office showed the purchase price for the Niagara Falls Boulevard eatery was $666,000. Of that amount, $436,000 was in the form of a mortgage.
Town officials said this week that they received a small number of hate calls and emails regarding the purchase by the Islamic Center of Niagara Falls, which plans to use the building as a prayer and community center with a banquet hall.
Supervisor Robert B. Cliffe said the use was permitted under the town’s zoning code and required no vote of approval by any board in the town.
The restaurant, owned by Kevin and Suzanne Guenther of Wheatfield, had been in business for 20 years.
