Loud muffler leads to arrest of alleged car thief

A complaint to the Erie County Sheriff’s Office about a Jeep with a loud muffler being driven away from an apartment complex early Friday afternoon in Springville led to the arrest of a 24-year-old Gowanda man on car theft charges.

After deputies responding to the complaint found Andrew Greinert walking from the stalled Jeep he had been driving about 1:40 p.m. on Route 39, they checked and found the vehicle had been reported stolen.

Greinert was charged with felony grand larceny, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, possession of burglar tools, aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and a number of traffic violations. He was taken to Erie County Holding Center pending his arraignment on the charges.
