Hamburg Hometown Heroes now accepting veterans of all wars

The Hometown Heroes Banner project is continuing for another year, and is accepting all Hamburg residents, past or present, who have served in all active war zones dating back to World War I.
The program honors veterans or soldiers with their photo and name on a banner that will be placed on utility poles in the village next spring.
Applicants must be or have been a Hamburg resident, or attended a public or private high school in the town.
Applications are available at Hamburg Village Hall and Town Hall, and must be submitted by Feb. 1. If soldiers meet the criteria, they are accepted in the order in which applications were received. There are 35 banners per season.
The banners are free to the veteran, but cost $125 to make. Banners will be hung on Buffalo Street between the Legion Drive roundabout to Union Street, and also on Main Street between Center and Lake streets. The family will receive the banner after it is taken down after Veterans Day. For more information, contact Sue Jantzi at 863-5880, or email GJant@aol.com.
