The Buffalo Chamber Players are warming up again for another concert, this one with a French twist. Called “Vive le France!,” it includes music by Claude Debussy, Gabriel Faure, Jean Francaix, Francois Poulenc and the Baroque composer Jean-Baptiste Lully.
As is the Chamber Players’ hallmark, the music makes creative use of various combinations of instruments. Janz Castelo, the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra violist who leads the Buffalo Chamber Players, is especially anticipating an arrangement of Debussy’s “Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun” for flute, oboe, clarinet, piano, harmonium, antique cymbals and strings.
“We’re glad to be putting our harmonium to good use,” he joked. Thanks to Craigslist, the Chamber Players have a harmonium in its performance space that has been awaiting opportunities such as this.
Bask in the creativity of the Buffalo Chamber Players at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in Buffalo Seminary. General admission is $15, students $5. For info, visit www.buffalochamberplayers.org.
