Jamestown man threatens trooper with knife

JAMESTOWN – A 30-year-old Jamestown man who allegedly threatened a state trooper with a knife Wednesday afternoon after a disabled vehicle incident in the Town of Ellery was jailed on felony charges of menacing a police officer and other charges.

Jonathan G. Galarza was remanded to the Chautauqua County Jail in Mayville without bail following his arraignment in Ellery after Trooper Jason Cresanti disarmed him in a brief struggle on the Southern Tier Expressway in Ellery about 1:35 p.m.

Galarza was a passenger in a vehicle driven by a person who previously had obtained an order of protection against him.

Police said the vehicle stalled on the highway. and Galarza got out and pulled a knife on Cresanti before he was disarmed.

Galarza was also charged with criminal possession of a weapon, resisting arrest and second-degree criminal contempt for being with the driver who had a court order against him. The driver was not identified by troopers.
