Boston’s pizza chain eyes Buffalo for expansion

Boston’s The Gourmet Pizza Restaurant and Sports Bar, which operates casual dining restaurants with a separate sports bar, plans to expand into the Buffalo area and is searching for potential franchisees.

The Dallas-based chain – part of a Canadian company based in British Columbia – is looking to open three or four locations here within the next five years, said Al Davis, vice president of development and franchise sales. Boston’s hopes to open the first of those either in late 2015 or early 2016.

Boston’s has 30 locations in 22 U.S. states and wants to increase that number to 63 by 2018. It is rolling out a new prototype for those restaurants. The chain doesn’t currently have a location in New York state.

Davis said Boston’s is focusing on 16 U.S. markets for expansion, and Buffalo is among four regions it is especially concentrating on. Part of its interest here stems from the border: a sister brand, Boston Pizza, has more than 375 locations in Canada, which allows Boston’s to build off that brand awareness and cross-border traffic, he said.
