Man dead after being pulled from Cazenovia Creek

A man rescued from the chilly water of Cazenovia Creek at around 12:30 a.m. Tuesday has died at Mercy Hospital.

Buffalo police responded to a call of a man in the water at about 11:50 p.m. Monday at Cazenovia Creek near South Legion Drive.

Police say it appears the man was out with friends when he decided to go into the water. Clothing was left piled on the bank of the creek.

The Buffalo Police Underwater Recovery Team was called and used a device designed to locate heat signatures in the water found the man within minutes and pulled him out of the creek. Emergency crews tried to revive him at the scene, before he was rushed to Mercy Hospital where he was pronounced dead. An autopsy determined that the man drowned.

Buffalo police have not released the victim’s name.
