University at Buffalo senior safety Adam Redden was named Mid-American Conference defensive player of the week, despite the fact UB lost Saturday to Central Michigan, 20-14.
Redden had another sensational game, with 10 tackles, 3.5 for loss, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery in the defeat. Redden's strip-sack of Central Michigan quarterback Cooper Rush in the second quarter turned the momentum and got UB back in the game. Redden recovered the fumble on the play. Central Michigan held a 14-0 lead at the time and had driven to the UB 33. The Bulls converted the turnover into a touchdown drive.
Redden, a St. Francis High School product, leads the MAC in tackles for loss with 12. He is tied for third in the MAC in sacks with five.
UB is off until next Wednesday, when it visits Ohio.
