Traffic snarl on Route 5 causes heavy delays during this morning’s commute

There are heavy delays on the Route 5 eastbound commute this morning.

Traffic was backed up on Route 5 all the way to Lackawanna, prior to the change from the 40 mph speed limit to 55 mph near the Ridge Road exit.

At 8:15 a.m., traffic was being moved off Route 5 at the Ohio Street exit. Cars were also unable to enter Route 5 eastbound at the Tifft Street on-ramp.

Alternate routes to enter downtown via South Buffalo -- South Park Avenue and Hopkins Street -- were slower because of spillover.

The Niagara International Transportation Technology Coalition also reported an accident on the I-190 North this morning that causes delays.
