Lockport Salvation Army plans groundbreaking

LOCKPORT – The Salvation Army will break ground at 10 a.m. Wednesday for the long-delayed expansion of its local headquarters at 50 Cottage St.

The ceremony also will include an announcement of the public phase of its $2.4 million fund drive for the project.

The Salvation Army received city Planning Board approval for the project in January 2012, saying construction was going to start in May of that year, but last November Maj. John Wheeler, local Salvation Army pastor at the time, said design issues had held up the work.

Wheeler subsequently was transferred to Philadelphia in June, and has been replaced by Majs. Elsa Jo Santiago and Jose Santiago.
