The University at Buffalo was valiant but not quite good enough Saturday in losing to Central Michigan, 20-14, at UB Stadium.
UB tell to 3-5 and will need to win all four of its final games to become bowl eligible.
Central Michigan (5-4) brought the No. 1-ranked defense in the Mid-American Conference into the game, and it lived up to its ranking. The Chippewas shut down the UB running game, holding Anthone Taylor to just 25 rushing yards on 14 carries.
UB got two touchdown passes from Joe Licata. But Central Michigan drove 98 yards in 16 plays in the fourth quarter to a touchdown that decided the game.
