Events for people with disabilities

In honor of National Employment Disabilities Awareness Month and Disabilities Mentoring Day, the 2014 Autumn Diversity Career Fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Buffalo and Erie County Library Central Branch, 1 Lafayette Square. Employer workshop presentations will run concurrently with the career fair from 10 a.m. to noon followed by an hourlong speaker series where individuals with disabilities present their success stories of how they overcame certain barriers to become gainfully employed. A complimentary continental breakfast will be available for employer participants between 9 and 9:45 a.m. in the West Room. Potential job candidates are encouraged to bring a resume and dress appropriately. The career fair is open to all and not limited to individuals with disabilities.

Independent Living of Niagara County is hosting its eighth annual “Meet the Candidates Day,” from 2 to 5 p.m. Tuesday in the conference room at their facility located at 746 Portage Road, Niagara Falls. The Schofield Residence, located at 3333 Elmwood Ave., Town of Tonawanda, is seeking reliable, caring individuals 15 years of age or older for weekly two-hour volunteer assignments. Following days and times are needed: Mondays and Wednesdays, 9 a.m. to noon, transport residents to in-house hair salon; Wednesdays, 10 a.m. to noon, assist with activities and resident transport for meals; Thursdays and Fridays, 2 to 4 p.m., assist with activities or visit with residents; Fridays, 1 to 3 p.m., transport residents to in-house hair salon.
