Buffalo man and woman charged with drug possession and intent to sell

A Buffalo man and woman were arrested Friday and accused of possessing three bags of cocaine, which police said the couple intended to sell.

Police stopped Mitchell J. Schruefer, 18, of Woodside Avenue and Lauren Ignelz, 23, early Friday at South Park and Lockwood avenues on suspicion of reckless driving. During the stop, police saw that the vehicle had been freshly damaged in an accident and later determined that it had struck a barrier on Fuhrmann Boulevard.

According to police, a search of the vehicle turned up three clear baggies of cocaine that were recovered from between the drivers seat and the center arm rest. Police said the powder cocaine was packaged in a manner that is commonly designed for individual sale, and in a quantity exceeding that which is generally packaged for individual use. The total amount of cocaine seized was more than 500 milligrams, police said.

Schruefer and Ignelz were both charged with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance with an intent to sell; fifth-degree criminal possession of cocaine and a criminal mischief charge for intentional property damage related to the motor vehicle accident.
