‘Small’ explosion at Amherst industrial complex, one injured

A “small explosion” was reported in an industrial complex on John Glenn Drive in Amherst late Friday morning, Amherst fire officials said.

One was injured but the extent of the injuries was not known. The person was transported by Twin City Ambulance to Erie County Medical Center.

The incident was reported at 11:19 a.m. at the IIMAK, an industrial complex at 185 John Glenn Drive. IIMAK produces fax machine ribbons.

It was reported as a second-alarm fire because the building is of an industrial nature.

When firefighter arrived, they reported fire and heavy smoke inside the building.

Firefighters from Ellicott Creek, Getzville and North Amherst responded to the scene, as did a haz-mat team from Brighton Fire Department.
