Sabres' league rankings are, well, pretty rank

SAN FRANCISCO -- The Sabres have one game left to salvage something from their three-game California trip. Even if they happen to blow out San Jose on Saturday afternoon, it probably won't help their NHL rankings.

The struggling Sabres (1-7) are at or near the bottom of most major categories in the 30-team league:

Points percentage -- Last, .125. (Carolina hasn't won yet, but it has two overtime/shootout losses to make its points percentage .167.)

Goals -- Last, 1.0 per game.

Goals against -- 27th (tie), 3.5 per game.

Power play -- Last, 0.0 percent (tied with Minnesota and Winnipeg).

Penalty kill -- 13th, 84.4 percent.

Shots for -- 29th, 24.1 per game. (Carolina is last at 23.5.)

Shots against -- Last, 37.5 per game.
