Oct. 24, 1974: Suspect jailed in bathtub strangulation at Rip Van Winkle Motel

A 15-year-old girl — who was set to testify in a federal investigation into teenage prostitution — was found strangled and naked, submerged in a bathtub, at the Rip Van Winkle Motel on Niagara Falls Boulevard in the Town of Tonawanda 40 years ago this week.

Forty years ago today, a reputed pimp who was believed to have killed the girl to stop her from testifying was behind bars.

"Leads developed in motel slaying; suspect in jail"

“She had filed harassment charges against him, claiming that he beat her when she refused to prostitute herself.”
