Hope Chest Buffalo paddlers head to Florida for international race

Members of the Hope Chest Buffalo Niagara Dragon Boat Team will travel to Sarasota, Fla. this weekend to take part in the 2014 International Breast Cancer Paddlers’ Commission Dragon Boat Festival.

More than 3,000 breast cancer survivors and supporters from all over the world will participate, making this the largest festival of its kind ever organized. The event is designed to promote healthy living and to empower survivors to continue celebrate their quality of life after cancer. Race days will be Saturday and Sunday.

“Our team is excited this event is being held in the USA and we are eager to head to Nathan Benderson Park in Sarasota to paddle,” Anne Kist, Buffalo Hope Chest program director and coach, said in an email. “Being part of this world-class event at a world-class rowing venue is simply joyful. It enables us all to put our fears behind us and paddle forward to celebrate life.”

The next Hope Chest Dragon Boat Festival in Western New York is scheduled for June 13, 2015. For sponsorship and other information, visit hopechestbuffalo.org.
