Falls man who fled to California arraigned in assault case

LOCKPORT – A Niagara Falls man who was indicted a year ago for allegedly assaulting a woman was returned to Niagara County Court Friday, the one-year anniversary of his original arraignment date, which he skipped.

Shadeed S. Turner, 31, formerly of Ninth Street, pleaded not guilty to second-degree assault, second-degree menacing and two counts of second-degree strangulation. He had been extradited from California. County Judge Sara Sheldon Farkas ordered him held without bail.

Turner was accused of assaulting a woman July 8, 2013, in the Falls. Deputy District Attorney Doreen M. Hoffmann said Turner knew the alleged victim, but she was not his girlfriend.
