Dr. Jacob M. Steinhart, founder of Amherst Pediatric Associates

A memorial service for Dr. Jacob M. Steinhart, founder of Amherst Pediatric Associates, was held Oct. 21. He was 93.

Dr. Steinhart was born in Salamanca and lived in Clarence until 2011. Since then, he had lived in Naples, Fla. He died Oct. 18 after a short illness.

He graduated from Olean High School and the University at Buffalo, where he received his medical degree. He was a member of Alpha Omega Alpha and served in the Navy.

Dr. Steinhart earned UB’s Robert S. Berkson Award in the Art of Medicine and Gold Humanitarian Award.

He was a member and past president of the Amherst High School PTA, as well as a former school physician.

Dr. Steinhart also served as director of the outpatient department at Women & Children’s Hospital and founded Amherst Pediatric Associates, where he worked from 1973 to 1994, when he retired. He served as emeritus clinical professor at the UB School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences.

He was a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity, Hospice Buffalo, and the Clarence Public Library.

He enjoyed skiing, tennis, carpentry and music.

Survivors include his wife, Carol; five sons, Corklin, Craig, Curt, Conrad and Justin; and a daughter, Carrie Flynn.
