Channel 7’s raid of the news staff of its competition continued today with the news that it has hired the executive producer at Channel 4.
Aaron Mason, who is in charge of all the producers at the CBS affiliate, is moving over to Channel 7 in late November as the station’s assistant news director.
Peter Jacobus, the interim news director at Channel 4 since the ouster of Joe Schlaerth, announced this afternoon to the station's staff that Mason has resigned, effective Nov. 21.
Channel 7 General Manager Mike Nurse confirmed that Mason will be the station's assistant news director once he is free of his Channel 4 obligations.
Mason, who is highly thought of inside Channel 4's news department, has been with Channel 4 for more than a decade and was the producer of the 11 p.m. newscast before he was named executive producer earlier this year.
The news comes as Channel 4 continues to look for Schlaerth’s permanent replacement amid speculation that Jacobus is eager to leave as soon as possible.
