It’s an unassuming brick building that has been the home of an auto repair place for decades. But 90 years ago, the factory just north of Broadway on Elm was a magical land where childhood memories were churned and sold by the gallon.
Fro-joy — and later Sealtest — made ice cream there until it was announced, 40 years ago today, that the plant was closing. News Columnist Karen Brady shares her own creamy memories and those of the longtime plant manager on the eve of the end of a frozen dairy era.
