MIDDLEPORT – The Royalton Town Board adopted a proposed $6 million town budget on Monday following a public hearing.
The $6,036,809 budget includes a seven-cent decrease in the tax rate to $3.22 per $1,000 of assessed valuation for town residents outside of the village of Middleport and a drop of 32 cents to $1.70 per $1,000 for Middleport residents.
The budget also reflects a recently negotiated, three-year contract with the five volunteer fire companies that provide fire protection for the town, with a total budget for all five companies of $430,358 for 2015. The town is covered by volunteers from Middleport, Gasport, Terry’s Corners and Wolcottsville, with the Rapids Fire Company also providing coverage for a small slice of the town. The three-year contract includes a 3 percent increase in funding for the first year, and a 2-percent increase in the second and third years.
