U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer and Rep. Brian Higgins, D-Buffalo, are advocating for additional federal funding for Launch New York, a Buffalo-based program that supports entrepreneurs and startups in 27 upstate New York counties.
Launch New York has applied for a total of $1.4 million in additional funding, from three different EDA programs. “These new grants will help Launch New York establish additional relationships with new companies and attract even greater investment to the local economy,” Schumer’s office said.
Higgins said one of the three grants Launch New York applied for, from the Commerce Department’s Cluster Grants for Seed Funds program, fits with Launch New York’s goal of creating seed funds supporting early-stage startups.
Launch New York is a nonprofit organization which aims to promote the growth of and investment in start-up companies around upstate New York. It supports initiatives including the 43North business plan competition.
