Joseph Sardo, owned Sav-On plumbing company

Joseph Sardo of the Town of Tonawanda, owner of a local plumbing company, died Tuesday in St. John’s Hospice, Buffalo, from complications of cancer. He was 59.

The Buffalo native graduated from Bennett High School and Buffalo State College with a degree in criminal justice.

Mr. Sardo served in the Army from 1973 to 1976, and was stationed in Hanau, Germany. A private first class, he was a missile systems repairman.

A master plumber and entrepreneur, Mr. Sardo owned and operated Sav-On-Plumbing in the Town of Tonawanda for more than 35 years, until his death.

Mr. Sardo enjoyed cooking and spent hours cooking for his family. He also enjoyed traveling and going to the casino.

His wife of 34 years, the former Donna Marie Thomas, said that on Oct. 12, her husband left hospice to walk his daughter, Deonna Marie, down the aisle when she married Christian Townsend.

Survivors also include his mother, Rose Marie; another daughter, Nicole Marie; one son, Anthony Joseph; two sisters, Carmelina Golba and Kim Wood; and two brothers, Larry and Robert.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9:30 a.m.. Saturday in St. John the Baptist Church, 1085 Englewood Ave., Town of Tonawanda.
