Zombie properties are starting to invade Hamburg, just like other communities.
There are 26 properties in foreclosure in the Village of Hamburg, and another seven or eight that are not in foreclosure but have been abandoned, and, like zombies, they suck the life out of the neighborhood.
Village Administrator Donald Witkowski suggested the village seek federal Community Development Block Grant funds to buy the houses in foreclosure so they can be renovated or demolished. It also could ask that the Buffalo Erie Niagara Land Improvement Corp., a public authority land bank, acquire the zombie properties, he said.
Village Board members Monday night agreed to amend the village application for federal funds to include the purchase of property.
