The agenda for tonight's Niagara Falls Zoning Board of Appeals meeting includes the requests from Niagara Gospel Rescue Mission for its emergency overnight shelter operations.
The requests for a use variance and a special use permit were tabled last month. Many neighbors believe the operation should not be allowed to continue based on city zoning codes.
The shelter on Ferry Avenue, which has also taken the issue to court, also operates a daily meal program and a long-term, residential counseling program.

The shelter had been operating without any obstacles from the city until block club members spoke out nearly a year ago. In April, the city shut down the emergency shelter operations. In July, the Zoning Board upheld that decision by city inspectors.
