In case you missed it, Money Magazine last month ranked Amherst No. 35 on this year’s list of Best Places to Live.
The magazine looked at all 781 U.S. cities – Amherst is actually a town, but who’s complaining – with populations between 50,000 to 300,000 people.
The magazine then weeded out and narrowed down the contenders using a formula to rank the Top 50 based on 45 factors in eight categories: Economic opportunity and jobs, housing affordability, education, crime, health, arts and leisure, ease of living and diversity.
According to the magazine, Amherst – which has a population of 122,370 – has a median family income of $89,726, median home price of $170,000 and average property taxes of $5,126, helping Erie County’s largest suburb earn the No. 35 ranking.
Amherst was one of only three places in New York to make the Top 50 list, which included Clarkstown in Rockland County at No. 7 and White Plains in Westchester County at No. 48.
