Tonawanda’s Anita Alvarez recently took another step on the path toward earning United States Olympian status as she was among four synchronized swimmers named Wednesday to the U.S. National Duet Training squad for 2015.
She is a member of the nine-team U.S. Senior National 1 Squad that’s been training since the end of August. Now, she’s eligible to participate in the Pan American Games (July 10-26) in Toronto and FINA World Championships in Russia Aug. 5-16.
Alvarez (Kenmore West, Tonawanda Aquettes) was a member of the U.S. Junior National Team that won gold at the 2013 UANA Pan American Championships. She and Sandra Ortellado earned gold in duet at this past year’s U.S. Open. She also participated in various international events, coming in seventh at the Brazil Open and 11th at the FINA World Junior Championships.
